Diversity and inclusion (D&I) have become more than just HR checklist items, they’re having a big impact on the success of companies across the United States. We caught up with Ultimate Software to talk about the importance of D&I, and what it means to their company. These are more than just buzzwords. In an increasingly global and connected world, it’s crucial for companies to have a diverse workforce. D&I initiatives also drive up engagement among employees. They allow companies to establish a larger platform for innovation, creativity, and a variety of perspectives. Here’s more about the benefits of D&I.

Founded in 1990, Ultimate Software is headquartered in Weston, Florida, and employs more than 6,000 people. Ultimate is a very diverse company and has had an organic 50/50 gender parity from the beginning. Over the past few years, we have focused on being more intentional with our efforts in remaining a diverse company. We also ranked #9 on Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Diversity list in 2019, and are looking forward to continuing this focus on D&I with our merger with Kronos Incorporated.

On April 1, 2020, we became one of the world’s largest cloud companies by merging with Kronos. We are so excited for the growth we are about to experience — to deliver enhanced scale and an even stronger position in the human capital management (HCM) and workplace management marketplaces, with highly complementary products and a combined 70 years of expertise. 

How does Ultimate Software make sure that employees keep inclusivity at the top of their minds? 

Ultimate empowers all of our employees to keep diversity, equity, and belonging at the forefront of what we do. For us, it’s all part of having a “People First” culture and employee experience. Our “U Belong” team ensures that policies and procedures are inclusive and accessible to everyone. 

Our Communities of Interest (employee-resource groups) serve to foster a place where every employee can belong and become allies. We have Communities of Interest (COIs) for the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, cancer survivors and caretakers, women in leadership, and women in tech. We’re very proud to be surpassing industry standards, specifically for women in technology. 

We have had so much success with these COIs that we are actually preparing to launch two new communities this year that support individuals with disabilities and people of color. Listening to our employees and providing these spaces where our people can feel included and welcome is extremely important to us. Our diversity-recruitment strategy is ensuring that we are building and fostering relationships to create talent-pipeline programs and opportunities that specifically appeal to members of underrepresented groups through university relations, community-based organizations, and professional networking opportunities.
