All of the jobs listed here have been ranked in terms of average salary, but before we start, you should know that they ALL have an average salary over $100,000! 

Anesthesiologists

According to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Paying Jobs rankings, Anesthesiologist is the best paying job in healthcare in America at the moment. If you’ve ever had surgery then you’ll know that anesthesiologists are responsible for administering the general or regional anesthesia so that surgeons and other physicians can perform invasive procedures without causing their patient any pain. They also monitor the patient’s vital signs before, during and after surgery, so they’re job is really important for everyone involved. 

Anesthesiologists made an average salary of $265,990 in 2017, that’s an average hourly wage of $127.88! What’s more, this profession is expected to grow 15% in the next 7 years, which means an extra 5,100 jobs will be created. According to the U.S. News and World Report the best paid cities for anesthesiologists are Los Angeles, California and Elkhart, Indiana, both of which pay their anesthesiologists more than $288,000! And, the top-paying places of employment that offer the highest average annual salaries for this job include specialty hospitals ($208,000 or more), dental offices ($280,750), physicians’ offices ($275,320), outpatient care centers ($269,220) and home health care services ($241,320).

Surgeons

Second on our list is the surgeon job with an average salary across America of $251,890! Surgeons are responsible for the operations that patients undergo. As a surgeon you can either train to become a general surgeon, or specialize in a certain area of medicine, such as orthopedic, neurological, cardiovascular or plastic surgery. According to the U.S. News and World Report the best paid metropolitan areas that pay the highest salaries for surgeons are Bloomington, Kennewick, Syracuse, Wilmington, and Gary.

Number 3 on our list is Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, which earned an average salary of $242,740 in 2017. These surgeons are specialist dentists that perform surgeries on the face, mouth and jaw. To qualify as an oral or maxillofacial surgeon you have to have at least four years of additional surgery training in order to treat everything from facial traumas to fixing cleft lips. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons can also diagnose and treat patients with head, neck and oral cancer, administer anesthesia and perform cosmetic surgeries, such as face-lifts. If you’re thinking of becoming an oral or maxillofacial surgeon or you’re looking for a better paid job, then you should move to Miami, Washington, Atlantic City, Nassau County, and Gary apparently, as these cities pay the most.

Obstetricians and Gynaeocologists

Obstetricians and gynecologists bring babies into the world and look after women’s reproductive health. The difference between the two is that obstetrics deals solely in childbirth, whereas gynecology is concerned with women’s health and particularly their reproductive health. You could be gynecologist and not be an obstetrician, BUT you can’t be an obstetrician without being a gynecologist! OB-GYNs perform “well-woman” exams, manage contraceptives and screen for HPV. Psychiatrists

Most of us probably think that we know what psychiatrists do, but their jobs are in fact really varied and, well paid! Working as a psychiatrist means looking after mental health. To qualify as a psychiatrist you have to complete medical school and a number of psychiatry residency programs, which will train you to understand the complex relationship between the mind and the body. Working psychiatrists then diagnose and treat mental illnesses and can even recommend hospitalizations in more complex cases. It’s not an easy job but psychiatrists earned an average salary of $216,090 in 2017 making it one of the highest paying jobs in healthcare. The highest paying areas for psychiatrists are Tucson, Riverside, Charlottesville, Fort Worth, and Oakland.
